Recording Cards (DC222 / DC230) hold collected samples against a black background, making corneum patterns easier to view, organize, record, and share.

Together, these accessories support consistent sampling and sample management in cosmetic research, product development, and professional skin evaluation.

This page also provides reference information on DSCAN, an 850 nm infrared analyzer used to quantify compatible stratum corneum samples. DSCAN is not sold by Smartchip.

DPRES

DPRES — Pressure Applicator for Consistent Corneum Checker Sampling

DPRES is a pressure applicator that uses spring elasticity to apply the corneum checker to the skin with uniform pressure. It is specifically designed to eliminate variations in applied pressure, regardless of who uses it or when it is used. This ensures consistent sampling pressure across different users and even across repeated uses by the same person.

The ideal pressure is approximately 225 grams per square centimeter, and DPRES is engineered based on this standard. By enabling consistent pressure for each sampling, DPRES improves the accuracy of protein quantification and skin condition assessments, allowing for more reliable data collection.

Two models are available to match different sizes of corneum checkers:

  • DPRES22: Compatible with 14 mm and 22 mm diameter corneum checkers

  • DPRES30: Compatible with 30 mm diameter corneum checkers and PRO type (slide-type corneum checkers)

How to Use the DPRES

Usage Instructions

    Place your thumb firmly over the hole at the top of the applicator (as shown in the image) and maintain a stable grip.

  • 2

    Apply the Corneum Strip Tape to the skin, then gently press the soft pad of the applicator onto the tape.

  • 3

    Press down with your thumb until you feel moderate resistance, and maintain that pressure for a fixed duration (typically 5 seconds). Apply the same pressure consistently for each use.

    Recording Cards（DC222・DC230）

    Recording Cards for Viewing and Organizing Corneum Checker Samples

    When a collected Corneum Checker is mounted on the black-printed area, the stratum corneum pattern becomes clearly visible, making evaluation easier.
    The white section at the bottom can be used for recording measurement notes.

    Two card sizes are available depending on the diameter of the Corneum Checker:

    • DC222：For φ14 mm and φ22 mm Corneum Checkers

    • DC230：For φ30 mm and PRO Type (Slide-Type Corneum Strip Tape)

    DSCAN Reference Information — 850 nm Infrared Stratum Corneum Analyzer

    DSCAN is a stratum corneum analyzer that uses 850 nm infrared light to measure the absorbance of corneum samples collected with Corneum Strip Tape models (DS1022, DS1022T, DR1022T, DS1014). By applying a transfer function to the measurement results (displayed as percentages), the system converts the data into quantitative protein values in the stratum corneum.

    Compared to conventional colorimetric analyzers, DSCAN offers a compact and cost-effective solution suitable for on-site skin research and diagnostics. It also includes the shareware “DensPC Software,” enabling seamless data acquisition and aggregation on a PC for improved operational efficiency.

    For stable and reproducible protein measurements, it is essential to use the DPRES pressure applicator to ensure consistent sample collection under uniform pressure, thereby guaranteeing accurate and repeatable results.
